Antique Jewish Silk Mantle for Torah Book Roller Hand Made
This is an antique mantle (cover) for a big roller Torah book scroll (only mantle, no book or rollers) made from beige silk fabric with a linen inner lining (separated to prevent shatnez) and adorned with fringes and hand embroidery on the front showing the Jewish symbols of Judia lions, a star of David with a Hebrew "Zion" inscription inside it, flora and a Torah crown. The top has a later added machine embroidery of a Hebrew inscription, probably an emendation to the donation of the mantle to a synagogue by "בערצי ראזינבערג " and his wife "אסתר" in the year תשי"ב - 1952.
Approx 68 cm long, 38 cm wide.
Worn, the hand embroidery is scraped and thinned in many parts due to time damages, the silk is worn and stained, a tear of about 5 cm wide at the top and small tears here and there.
