SPANISH DON QUIXOTE LITHOGRAPH AFTER PABLO PICASSO
Pablo Picasso, Spanish, 1881 to 1973, lithograph on paper, Don Quixote. Signed in pencil, lower right. Don Quixote is a sketch drawn by the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso in 1955 and depicting the literary hero Don Quixote and his squire Sancho Panza. The drawing was published in the August issues 18 to 24 of the weekly Les Lettres Francaises as part of the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the publication of the novel Don Quixote. The sketch was made on August 10, 1955, and is completely different in style from Picasso's other early paintings: Blue, Pink, and Cubism. Pablo Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and theatre designer who spent most of his adult life in France. Regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore.
