GREEK BLACK GLAZED TERRACOTTA SNAKE
Ca. 500 - 300 BC.
An Attic figurine in the form of a slithering snake made of terracotta and decorated with black glaze. The impressive realism which the figurine captures would mean the piece had a totemic value in Greek society. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
Size: 465mm x 180mm; Weight: 300g
Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014, acquired from Jean David Cahn, TEFAF 2010, 16 March, 2010. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
