Ca. AD 618 – 907 A Chinese terracotta kneeling camel. A beautifully modeled bactrian figure in dynamic pose, where the camel is balancing itself on its front legs. It is a popular depiction of the period, reflecting the practice of camels transporting goods suchs as bolts of silk and metalware vessels along the Silk Road, as can be seen here. The camel is modeled with greatly textured face, saddle and goods. This piece has been precisely dated using a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. Size: 280mm x 290mm; Weight: 3.77kg Provenance: East Anglian private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong. This piece has been precisely dated using a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
