GANDHARAN STONE HIGH RELIEF DEPICTING BODHISATTVA
Ca. AD 200 - 600 A finely-carved grey schist relief with a depiction of the Bathing of the Bodhisattva. Traditionally, this scene is accompanied with the scene of the Birth of Bodhisattva. In this relief, the Bodhisattva is standing on a pedestal supported by two ladies, with another two ladies pouring a bath from water jugs. There is a column on each side of the scene. Size: 400mm x 210mm; Weight: 8.24kg Provenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in the early 2000s in France; previously in 1970s European collection.
