Letter on halachic matters, from the Gaon Rabbi Yonah Ze’ev Halpert of Mako, author of Mareh Re’ah
At the end of the letter he writes, “Baruch Hashem I have close to 400 responsa on shechita and bedika that are written down and in my possession, may Hashem Yisbarach help me that I merit to publish them and help the public with them.”
Rabbi Yonah Ze’ev Halpert was the son of Rabbi Akiva. Rabbi Yonah was very involved in the compilation of responsa and books on shechita and treifos and corresponded with the most knowledgeable men of his generation in these matters. He was the head shochet in Mako and was praised by the greatest rabbis and tzaddikim. His published works include Mareh Re’ah and Kol Hator.
