KISHI GANKU
(1749-1839)
Landscape with fisherman
Vertical hanging scroll painted in ink on paper, 94 x 29 cm
Signed on the left with seal; silk frame.
Provenance: Italian private collection.
Born in Kanazawa, Kishi Ganku in 1773 moved to Kyoto where he brilliantly continued his career by executing paintings for important collectors. Famous above all for his tigers, he was an eclectic artist, experimenting with various styles including the one promoted by the Nanga School which was clearly inspired by traditional Chinese painting, also exemplified in this delicate painting.
