Luxurious facsimile reproduction of the Gutenberg Bible, or 42-line Bible, consensually considered the first book printed in Europe using movable characters or typography (s.d., ca. 1450-1455). The first two volumes are made up of the facsimile (in lithograph) respecting the dimensions and colours of the original (red, blue and black) kept in the Biblioteca Mazarina, the oldest public library in France, founded and developed from the personal library of Cardinal Mazarino (1602-1661). The two volumes that accompany the facsimile, authored by Jean-Marie Dodu, include a historical introduction, the Latin transcription, accompanied by the English translation. The four volumes, as new, retain the publishers' bindings, those of the facsimile fully in red morocco, with closed gold panels on the spines and the top edge gilt at the head (with protective cases); the complementary volumes, with cloth bindings.
