Antique c1870 Stencil Quilt measuring 76x76", comprised of 16 blocks, 15x15", set straight, 4 by 4, with 5.5" cheddar sashing, and stenciled flower cornerstones. Each block is hand stenciled with fruit, flowers, and leaves. This is a very rare and usual quilt, only found in museums! It is hand painted, hand pieced, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied cheddar binding. There is a sleeve for hanging attached to the back along the top of the quilt, and signed by Bobby Aug. It is in good condition with just a few small spots. This quilt can be seen on page 151 of "Vintage Quilts" co-authored by Bobby Aug. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter's Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
