Antique c1850 Star of Bethlehem Medallion Quilt measuring 95x96", the center Star of Bethlehem is in block 49x49", with additional stars in the corner blocks, and partial stars in the setting triangles. It is surrounded bt 16 additional star blocks, 14.5x14.5", also set on point. The background fabric, 2.5" sashing, and outer setting triangles are the same early blue print. There are some wonderful early fabrics in this quilt including chintz and Prussian blues. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. There is a brown print reverse, possibly a challis and thin cotton batting. The edge is finished with an applied narrow blue print binding, by hand. In fair condition, a brown print fabric is starting to deteriorate in the center star and additional 8 blocks, and other small spots. There is a sleeve for hanging attached to the back along the top of the quilt. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter's Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
