Antique c1890 Basket with Stuffed Roses Quilt
Antique c1890, possibly earlier, Basket with Stuffed Roses Quilt measuring 61 by 76 inches. Medallion style with 3 pieced cheddar baskets with Trapunto or stuffed roses blocks, 9.5 by 9.5 inches, set on point, 1 by 3, with a 2 inch vertical white frame and a 2 inch green frame surrounding the trio of blocks. The setting triangles are also off white. That is followed with a 2 inch frame around all 4 sides. Followed by a frame of 11 basket blocks set on point, 4 on each side, and 3 along the bottom. Again off white fabric is used as setting triangles. There is an inner border of solid green 1.25 inches, and outer border of solid white 2.25 inches. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied solid green binding, by hand. It is in fair condition with several spots, edge wear, and minor wear to some of the stuffed flowers, common to poncho quilts. There is a sleeve for hanging attached to the back along the top of the quilt. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter's Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
