Late 19th Century Blue Velvet Day Dress. The pairing includes a late 19th century matching blue velvet bodice and skirt. The bolero-like bodice features three quarter length sleeves and a vest overlay design covered in light blue silk embroidery, net, dangles, tabs, and velvet flowers with an inner white silk front. The bodice is missing its inner bust area which most likely had a lace insert or lace collar. It is lined in blue silk and edged in white machine made lace, the inner blouse is lined in white silk and has a label that says Caroline, Chicago. The skirt features a silk attached "Belt" and silk embroidery along the bottom in a mix of floral, straight, and scalloped line embroidery. The skirt is unlined and has hook and eye closures. Laying flat the pairing measures: Bodice: bust 18'', sleeve 16''. The skirt: waist 16'', length 36''. The pairing is in fair/poor condition with fading, discoloration, tears, stains and holes on both pieces. The silk used to line some of the potions of the bodice are very brittle and shattering. This would make an excellent reference piece. Please see the photos. If you have any doubt, please ask questions!
