A rare document that seeks to set 'Holocaust Day' to the tenth of Tevet

A rare document from the Mount Zion Committee, in which the director general of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dr. Shmuel Zanville Kahana, addresses the heads of rabbis, religious councils, religious committees, and immigrant organizations, and details the agenda of the "Day of Remembrance for Nazi Holocaust Saints" In the declaration of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, which was to be held on the tenth of Tevet 1951. Unlike the date ultimately set for Holocaust Remembrance Day -  Nissan 27.

The content that appears in the letter refers to the existence of a full 'Holocaust Day', which includes memorial prayers in the synagogues, lighting the ashes of the ash jars in the Holocaust cellar on Mount Zion, and a central memorial prayer in the Holocaust cellar. The determination of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel that the tenth of Tevet will be "General Kaddish Day" in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, preceded the Date state selection, and in fact even preceded the establishment of the State of Israel. The Chief Rabbinate refused to accept the proposal of Nisan 27th, because the halachah forbids saying a Tachanun, setting a public fast and holding an obituary in the month of Nisan, known as the "month of redemption", despite the mourning customs that apply at the time of the Omer count. Over the years, the character of the tenth of Tevet has been reduced to the day of reciting Kaddish for the deceased whose day of death is unknown, including those who perished in the Holocaust.
