HOOVER J. EDGAR: (1895-1972) American law enforcement administrator, the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) 1924-72. T.L.S., J. E. Hoover, one page, 4to, Washington D.C., 14th August 1939, to Miss. Judith E. Alstead, on the printed stationery of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Hoover writes in relation to his correspondent's desire to be considered for the position of Stenographer in the Juneau Alaska office of the FBI and informs Alstead that he has 'already advised Special Agent in Charge Vogel who at the present time is en route to Alaska to contact you upon his arrival in Juneau to ascertain whether you are desirous of being considered for employment at this time. I am sure Mr. Vogel will contact you at an early date and you may rest assured your application will be given most serious consideration in the filling of the stenographic vacancy in that city'.
