CHATEAUBRIAND FRANÇOIS-RENÉ DE: (1768-1848) French Writer, Politician and Historian. He is considered the founder of Romanticism in French literature. L.S., Chateaubriand, one page, 4to, Paris, 7th October 1823, to an Ambassador, in French. A short message by Chateaubriand, acting in his capacity as French Foreign Affairs Minister, stating in full `I will be entirely at your disposal today, after the reception given by the King. Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurance of my high esteem´. With two vertical light folds, few minor stains not affecting the text or signature and very small creasing to the left edge, otherwise G The Ambassador the present letter is addressed to was Count Carlo Andrea Pozzo di Borgo (1764-1842), a Corsican Russian Diplomat who served as Russian Ambassador to Paris. Chateaubriand was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1822 to 1824, after having served as Ambassador to Prussia in 1821 and Ambassador to the United Kingdom in 1822. Louis XVIII (1755-1824) King of France 1795-1824, with a brief interruption during the Hundred Days in 1815.
