DELAUNEY JULES-ELIE: (1828-1891) French Painter, renowned for his portraits. His famous painting Peste a Rome (“ Plague in Rome”) is exhibited at the Musée d´Orsay. A.L.S., E. Delaunay, one page, oblong 4to, n.p. [Paris], n.d., to the curators of the Imperial library, in French. Delaunay asks for the temporary loan of few works, stating in full ` Je prie Messieurs les Conservateurs de la Bibliothèque impériale de m´accorder la faveur du prêt des ouvrages suivants: Bossuet: 1º Elévations sur les mystères; 2º Méditations sur l´Evangile; Lacordaire – Conférences de Notre Dame pendant les années..´ (Translation: “ I beg you Sirs, Curators of the Imperial Library, to grant me the favour of lending me the following works: Bossuet: 1º Elévations sur les mystères; 2º Méditations sur l´Evangile; Lacordaire – Conférences de Notre Dame pendant les années..”) Also signed at the base by Charles Marty-Laveaux (1823-1899) French literary Scholar and author of La Pléiade Française, a long series of editions of the poets of La Pleiade. Very small minor age wear to edges, otherwise G to VG
