RONCALLI FRANCESCO SAVERIO: (1883–1976) Younger brother of Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, Pope John XXIII (1881-1963). The two brothers were the fourth and fifth among 13 children born to Marianna Mazzola and Giovanni Battista Roncalli, in a family of sharecrppers as did most of the people who lived in Sotto il Monte in the province of Bergamo, Lombardy. A.L.S:, ` Saverio Roncalli´, two pages, oblong 6 x 4 card, Sotto il Monte, 29th December 1958, to Signore Cornelius Greemvar, Brooklin, New York, in Italian. Saverio Roncalli apologizes for his late reply and explains the reason, saying in part ` Perdoni il mio lungo ritardo - avrei voluto rispondere subito ma non ho potuto dovendo far tradurre il suo gentile scritto. Ho fatto spero come su desiderava il Parroco don P. Bosio ringrazia a nome mio per il suo delicato pensiero...nel ricordo del Papa...´ (Translation: " Forgive my long delay - I would have liked to answer immediately but I could not because I had to translate your kind letter. I hope I did as you wished, the Parish Priest Don P. Bosio thank you for the delicate thought...in memory of the Pope..") Accompanied by the original enveloppe, addressed in Roncalli´s hand, postmarked and stamped. VG
