Letter of Semicha (Ordination) by Rabbi Pinchas Leib Friedan Av Beit Din of Komarno to his Disciple Rabbi Yehoshua Ha'Levi Taeuber - 1841
Letter of Semicha "Yoreh Yoreh Yadin yadin" for Rabbi Yehoshua Ha'Levi Taeuber. Handwritten by Rabbi Pilchas leib Friedan Av Beit Din of Komarno.
At the beginning of the letter, Rabbi Pinchas Leib writes about the genius and diligence of Rabbi Yehoshua Ha'Levi: "My beloved friend and disciple who is most knowledgeable in the Shas and Poskim, Rishonim and Achronim … a wise scholar worthy of teaching …"
At the end of the letter, the Rabbi's signature :"… here in Komarno … Pinchas Leib Friedan".
Rabbi Pinchas Leib Friedan Av Beit Din of Komarno (1802-1873) son of the Dayan Rabbi Moshe Leipnik Friedna of Bonyhad, disciple of Rabbi Binyamin Wolf Boskowitz Av beit Din of Bonyhad, author of "Seder Mishnah". After his death in 1818 he studied with his father and after his death in 1826 replaced him as Dayan in Bonyhad. In 1832 he became the rabbi of Komarno. He served as the rabbi of Komarno for 42 years, until his death in 1873. The "Chatam Sofer" corresponded with him and his responses were printed in the "Chatam Sofer" responsa. Authored the book of Derashot "Pnei Aryeh".
