Shavuot Prayer Book – London, 1807 | The Copy of Antony Rothschild
Description:
A Shavuot Prayer Book following the Polish custom, with English translation side by side with the Hebrew text. This prayer book was printed in London, 1807 and is bound in original light-colored leather.
The spine of the cover features a red-and-gold bookplate with the embossed name: "ANTONY DE ROTHSCHILD."
Historical Significance:
This prayer book belonged to Antony Rothschild, the son of Baron Nathan Mayer Rothschild (son of Mayer Amschel Rothschild, the founder of the family) and the brother of Baron Lionel Rothschild. Antony Rothschild was an important figure in the Rothschild family, playing a significant role in the family’s legacy and its influence in both business and society.
Condition:
Binding: The front and back covers are detached, but the leather binding is still in good condition and can be easily repaired.
Pages: The text is in good condition, with only slight signs of age. The gilded page edges are well-preserved.
Overall: The prayer book is in very good condition, considering its age, and is a rare and valuable item, with a strong connection to one of the most prominent Jewish banking families in history.
