Marcus Jastrow. A Lecture on Temperance.
pp. 12. Marginal chips, browned. Unbound. 8vo. Singerman 2449.

Hebrew Orphan Asylum Printing Establishment, New York: 1874.

Jastrow, Rabbi of Congregation Rodeph Shalom in Philadelphia, here dismisses the concerns of the Women’s Crusade who were demonstrating against the liquor industry, perceiving alcohol as a cause of much social distress. Jastrow specifically disapproves of the female members of his congregation participating in this growing movement in America, regarding such behavior as being fundamentally un-Jewish.
