Robert van Genechten. Van den Vos Reynaerde, Ruwaard Boudewijn en Jodocus.

De Amsterdamsche Keurkamer, Amsterdam: 1941.

Robert van Genechten (1895-1945) was a Belgian-born Dutch politician and writer who was an ardent collaborator during the German occupation of the Netherlands. The present volume is a rewrite of the medieval ‘Reynard the Fox’ fable here issued as an illustrated children’s book. Essentially it is a plea for racial purity and for a so-called natural order, in which a powerful leader governs the people, and in which the evil Jew (Jodocus the rhinoceros) seeks to undermine those values. The success of the book in Dutch Nazi circles led to a film treatment, the largest such production in war-time Netherlands.
