NACHLAS AVOS. ABARBANEL. VENICE 1545.
Classic commentary to Pirkei Avos by R. Yitzchok Abarbanel. Includes the introduction of The RaMBaM to Pirkei Avos, as well as a laudatory poem by the author’s eldest son, R. Yehuda Abarbanel on the verso of the title page.
R. Yitzchok Abarbanel (1437-1508) was one of the most influential rabbinical figures of his time. He lived in Spain where in addition to his rabbinic duties he was close to the Monarch, serving as The Royal Treasurer. He utilized his position to assist the Jewish community and invested yeoman efforts and resources to rescind the edict of The Spanish Expulsion. Tragically, he was unsuccessful and he was forced into exile.
This sefer reflects the tragic period in which he lived, with reference to the suffering and tribulations of The Jewish People.
