A Mid-Atlantic Federal Cherry Slant Front Desk, Late 18th Century
The hinged thumb molded fall with mitered corners, enclosing an interior fitted with a central prospect door enclosing a removable bank of drawers faced by an open aperture with small valanced drawer above and two small drawers below concealing three secret drawers to the reverse, flanked by engaged colonettes with flame finals to the document drawer fronts, further flanked by four valanced pigeon holes above four small drawers to either side, all above four graduated, cockbeaded drawers over a molded base, raised on 'French' bracket feet. Having yellow pine secondary wood and full depth dust boards.
Dimensions: Height 43 1/4in; width 39in; depth 22 1/2in.
Condition:
Structurally sound. General marks, wear, nicks abrasions, surface scratches and small losses. Retaining an old surface. The brass hardware is replaced. There are two sets of holes to drawer fronts from earlier hardware.
