A Pair of Mid-Atlantic Federal Mahogany Armchairs, Probably Maryland, Late 18th Century
The molded and arched crest above a pierced splat, flanked by shaped stiles and arms, above a trapezoidal slip seat, raised on molded square tapered legs, joined by stretchers. Pine secondary to seat frames. Accompanied by the original bill of sale to the present owner. (2)
Dimensions: Height 39 1/2in; width 23 1/2in; depth of seat 16 1/4in; seat height 18 1/4in.
Provenance: Purchased with Mayfair House, Inc. Antiques, Lambertville, New Jersey, December 2, 1976.
From a Staten Island, New York Collection.
Condition:
Structurally sound. Each with original seat frames and most glue blocks. Three of the arms with minor spliced repairs where the armrests meet and attach to the vertical supports. Wear to feet. General marks, wear, nicks, abrasions and surface scratches overall.
