Leaf handwritten with mikrah and targum. Ashkenaz, 13-14th century, taken from bindings.
Block-letter manuscript on parchment, antique, taken from binding. Pretty, calligraphic writing, one page written on both sides, containing a section from the end of Bereishit (Parshat Vayechi), describing the death of Yaakov and his commandment to his son Joseph before his death.
Two columns: a central column with the mikrah, niqqud and taamim, and on the side is a narrow column with smaller letters and Onkelos translation.
18x22cm. The script and style are characteristic of Germany or France in the 13-14th centuries.
Researchers from the Kedem auction house identified the writing as similar to a Torah manuscript with targum written in Crest, southeastern France in 1296, by the sofer Menachem ben Aharon (MSS 95-97, Jesus College, held by the Bodleian Library in Oxford). See: Edna Angel and Malachei Beit Aryeh, collection of Hebrew writings from the Middle Ages, vol. 3 – Ashkenazi script, Israeli National Academy of Science, Jerusalem 2017, 31).
