Matvey Genrikhovich Manizer (1891-1966). Academician of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1947). People's Artist of the USSR (1958). Laureate of three Stalin Prizes (1941, 1943, 1950).
In 1909-1914 he studied at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of St. Petersburg University. At the same time, in 1908-1909 he studied at the A. L. Stieglitz Central School of Technical Drawing, in 1909-1911 at the Drawing School of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions, in 1911-1916 at the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts. Pupil of G. R. Zaleman and V. A. Beklemishev, under whose supervision he created sculptures on biblical and mythological themes.
Since 1921 - at the teaching work (VKhUTEMAS (1921-1929, Leningrad), Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I. E. Repin (1935-1941 and 1945-1947, professor since 1939, Leningrad), Moscow Higher Art and Industrial school (1946-1952), Moscow Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov (1952-1966).
