מדליה ממלכתית, תשכ"ב 1962
ב-5 ביולי 1961 שילחה ישראל בהצלחה טיל למחקר אטמוספרי, שתוכנן ושוגר ע"י צוות מדענים וטכנאים ישראליים. מומחים ציינו כי עיקרו של ההישג ביכולה של ישראל להכין את החומר ההודף, שיוצר כולו מחומרים המצויים בישראל.
החומר פותח באגף המחקר של משרד ביטחון. בהודעה רשמית נמסר כי משקל הטיל כרבע טון, וכי שוגר לגובה של כשמונים ק"מ, וכינויו הוא "שביט 2".
