Handwritten Letter by R. Yechezkel Abramsky, London 1934.
Well wishes for a new year, handwritten by R. Yechezkel Abramsky, London 1934.
R. Yechezkel Abramsky (1886-1976), one of the leading Torah figures of the previous generation. In his youth he studied for a short time under R. Chaim Brisker, which left a lasting impact on his method of learning. He eventually became the Rav of Slutsk, only to be sentenced to Siberia a few years later in 1929. He was released in 1931, due to the intervention of a German chancellor on his behalf. He then fled to London, where he was appointed rabbi of the Machzikei Hadas community in London's East End. In 1934, Chief Rabbi Joseph H. Hertz persuaded him to become Rosh Beth Din of the London Beth Din, a post he held until he moved to Jerusalem in 1951.
