A 3-line long letter in Oriental Handwriting, signed by the Rishon L'Zion Rabbi Yaakov Elyashar, together with his stamp and the stamp of the "Kolelot K'K HaMa'aravim". An additional handwritten signature (most likely of the Gabbai of the Kolelot HaMa'aravim).

In the letter Rabbi Elyashar confirms: "I received from Rabbi Shmuel Salant the sum of four pounds sterling, from the donation of the rich man Joseph Sebag-Montefiore to distribute to the poor people from the Sephardi and Western Kollelot in the Holy City to assist them in Kimcha D'Pishcha, and he should be full of blessing as the request of his admirers and those who respect him, who seek his wellbeing…". At the end of the letter he added, as was his custom, in oriental handwriting, after his signature "Ba Siman Yis"a Bracha".

The Rishon L'Zion Rabbi Yaakov Shaul Elyashar, author of "Yis"a Bracha" (1817-1906), one of the great scholars of Jerusalem. From 1893 he was the Chief Rabbi (the Rishon L'Zion – Chacham Bashi) of Jerusalem. He was a tremendous genius and the wise man of the Jews. He authored many books.
