'STONED' AMERICAN SOLDIER DEMOTED FOR MARIJUANA USE
Comedic Vietnam War grouping from American soldier Elmer L. Alexander, Specialist Fourth Class within the 60th Transportation Company, punished by the army for wrongful possession and use of marijuana. The lot includes four pages of disciplinary reports, indicating that Alexander was twice reported for possession and use of marijuana on both Jan 1. 1970 and Aug. 5, 1971, penalized first with fines and extra duty, then with a temporary reduction to the grade of Private First Class. Sold with 26 original photographs, many showing Alexander and fellow servicemen with cigarettes in hand, and one image inscribed on the verso: 'To the Coolest Junkie I have Ever Been Stoned With'. Sold with Alexander's 'Motor Vehicle Operator's Identification Card', as well as printed page bearing a cartoonish depiction of a GI in the DMZ, captioned in part: 'I'm, drunk, sick, pissed off. Stupid, hungry, and have a hangover, flat broke...I got loose bowels, about to shit my pants, and latrine is off limits until after inspection, and the some-son-of-a-gun says 'Re-Enlist for the Benefits'. Very good condition.
