Shu"t Yad Shalom of the Admor of Zabno, with an Important Chassidic Bibliographic Note in the Hand of Rabbi Meir Shapira of Lublin.
"Yad Shalom" responsa. Printed anonymously, with a comment in the hand of Rabbi Meir Shapira of Lublin disclosing that it was written by Rabbi Shalom Dovid Ungar – the Admor of Zabno. Tolcsva, [1911].
[2], 154, [5]. 34 cm.
Rabbi Shalom Dovid Ungar, the Admor of Zabno, was born in 1870. His father was Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchak of Zabno (of the Dąbrowa dynasty). His mother was the daughter of Rabbi Meir of Zikov, the "Imrei Noam". He served as Rabbi of Rakov and, after his father's death in 1892, took over his position in Zabno. During the First World War, he moved to Vienna and later lived in Trantov. He died in 1923 and was buried in Zabno. Refer to Y. Alfasi, Encyclopedia L'Chassidut, 3, 1927; and Encyclopedia L'Chachmei Galicia, volume 1, columns 58-59.
This was the personal copy of Rabbi Yehuda Meir Shapira of Lublin, Rabbi of Piotrkow and Rosh Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin. The title page bears his handwritten note regarding the person who gave him the book, with his stamp. Rabbi Meir Shapira, an expert in the annals of Torah scholars and Chassidic leaders, wrote in large letters after the title page: מחבר הספר הנוכחי הי' הרב הגאון הצדיק ר' שלו' דוד אונגר, נכד הגאון הקדוש המפו' בעל אמרי נועם זי"ע מדזיקוב [the author of this book was Rabbi…Shalom Dovid Ungar, grandson of the Imrei Noam of Dzikov].
Simple binding. Tear in the title page. Title page reinforced with tape. Overall very fine condition.
