Polemic letter from Rabbi Menachem Mendel Margalios, Av Beis Din of Horints – a student of the Kedushas Yomtov of Sighet, 1917
A highly critical and opinionated letter concerning the rabbinate branches in the villages and the plan to close them. The letter was sent to the rabbi of Chust, and following a long detailed description of the improvements and rectifications that he (Rabbi Margaliot) had instituted in Horints, he sharply criticizes the plan to amalgamate the rabbinical branches in the villages with the main central city, and pleads that this not be done because of the immense damage it would cause to the Torah life of the communities (which were very poor, both materially and spiritually), and the harm it would cause him personally.

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Margaliot (1875-1944) was the son of Rabbi Yisrael and was a student of the Gaon Rabbi Eliezer Chaim Duetsch of Hanusovce, the author Tevuos Hasadeh, the Keren LeDavid and the Kedushat Yomtov of Sighet.
