Two Belt Buckles – Ottoman Empire
Two belt buckles. Ottoman Empire (Syria?), [early 20th century].
Silver (gilt), punched and repoussé; glass beads.
1. Composed of two round, concave parts, with small central boss set with glass bead. Surface decorated with symmetrical vegetal patterns. Arched and pointed silver ornaments soldered onto edges. At center, ornament, also inlaid with glass bead, meant to cover (missing) clasp. 34X15 cm. Clasp missing.
2. Composed of two small, round, slightly convex parts, with decorations in form of compass roses at their centers and recurrent vegetal patterns at edge. Closed with hook. 22X9.5 cm.
