A charming, miniature Siddur measuring only 8cm, printed especially for those traveling to the United States of America. Contains prayers for the entire year, including prayers for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. With a special prayer for those traveling by sea, as would be the case for those traveling to America.
A prayer book of such nature – made for the long voyage to America – serves as a testament to the mass emigration of Eastern European Jewry to America in the mid-19th century. It would seem that due to the immense popularity of emigration, the publisher of this Siddur used this as a marketing ploy, which was met with great success.
