Born 1938 in Bucharest, Romania, and immigrated to Israel at the age of 10. From his youth he discovered a talent for painting. His father, who was an art collector, recognized this talent and encouraged him to learn and develop his talent.
He studied at the Avni Institute (1954-1955) and among the renowned teachers: Marcel Janco, Streichman and Steimatzky. Their approach to the abstract did not match his inner truth and he stopped drawing. After a few years he returned to study with the painter Zvi Shorr (1970-1971) and then with Prof. Schwarzman, who as a young and admired artist used to draw with the painters: Lubin, Holtzman and Nachum Gutman, mainly in the alleys of Jaffa, His unique fondness for Jaffa, and his unique love for Jaffa, is expressed in a variety of subjects in his works: markets, alleys, cafes, the characters that inhabit them, the sea and the fishermen. , The fragrances of present and nostalgia of the past, all joining together on a cloth And fascinate the viewer's eye.
Avi Schwartz is an honest and coherent artist who stands in the forefront of Israeli art. He defines his style as between post-impressionism and phobism. He believes with all his might in the chosen art in its true qualities, even if it belongs to an older school and does not try to break conventions and be exceptional. Thanks to his style he reaches the essence of things and emphasizes with great technical skill and sensitivity the positive, beautiful and aesthetic.
In 1979 he studied at the Grand Chumière Art Academy in Paris. He exhibited in many solo exhibitions in Israel, South Africa and Venezuela, and participated in many group exhibitions in Israel, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, the United States and Japan.
His works are highly regarded and exhibited in galleries around the world alongside the best Israeli artists. His works are in private and public collections.
