LASOURCE: (1763-1793) Marc David Alba, known as Lasource, being the ''nom de guerre'' he adopted as a Protestant priest prosecuted by official authorities. French Politician, President of the National Convention from April to May 1793 for a period of only fourteen days. A month later Lasource was arrested because he did not support the prosecution of Marat, and was guillotined at the very early age of 30. A good multiple signed document by four members of the National Convention, one page, 4to, Paris, 30th March 1793, to the Minister of war, in French. The letter signed bears the heading ''Convention Nationale - Comité de Sureté Générale et de Surveillance de la Convention Nationale''. Countersigned by J.M. Alquier (1752-1826), Jacques Garnier (1755-1818) and François-Pierre Ingrand (1756-1821). The members of the committee warn the war Minister about the Austrian military threat over the city of Maubeuge, stating in part `..You will realise how much this town is in danger and how urgent are the rescue measures claimed. The Committee believes that you will take the necessary steps and without delay to sort this important situation out..´ Folded to the lower border, otherwise VG £200-300
The town of Maubeuge was besieged by the Austrian troops on September 23rd 1793. Carnot and Jourdan troops rescued the town. Lasource is most remembered for his last words before being guillotined `I die the day people have lost their reason; You will die the day they will regain it´.
