An important supercommentary on Rashi, by one of the most influential poskim of all time - the greatest of his generation, R' Yisrael Isserlein.

Printed for the first time in 1519, at the important printing house of Daniel Bomberg.

Rabbi Yisrael Isserlein (Maribor 1390 – Wiener-Neustadt 1460) was one of the greatest Ashkenazi rabbis of the 15th century. He is considered one of the last of the Rishonim, or one of the first of the Achronim. He is best known for his seminal work "Trumat HaDeshen", a collection of 354 responsa invented by R' Isselein himself for the purpose of study and ruling.

R' Isserlein established a yeshiva in Wiener-Neustadt and served as its Rosh Yeshiva. In time, the yeshiva became a great center for Torah learning, producing many rabbis who served the communities of Ashkenaz. During his lifetime R' Isserlein was recognized as a Gadol HaDor and was asked numerous Halakhic questions. His rulings formed a solid basis for Ashkenazi customs, and many of them were brought as halakhah both by the Shulchan Aruch and the Rama. His outstanding disciple, R' Yosef ben Moshe, wrote the book "Leket Yosher, " which is entirely dedicated to R' Isserlein's leadership and his practices, and to his methods of study and instruction.

Within the book are several interesting glosses from two different hands.
