Lev Ahron by R' Ahron Ibn Chaim of Fez. Venice 1609. Signed Ish Ger.
First part of the one and only edition of Rabbi Ahron ibn Chaim of Morocco’s commentary on the Early Prophets, including the text of the Book of Joshua.

The title page as well as the two subsequent pages feature the signature of "Ish Ger", abbreviation for the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Yosef Shlomo GRaziano.

Rabbi Avraham Yosef Shlomo Graziano was a Rabbi and wise sage who lived in Italy during the 17th century. He was renowned as a book and manuscript collector.

Rabbi Ahron ibn Chaim lived ca.1555-1632. Born in Fez, he is recognized as one of Morocco’s great scholars. He studied in his father’s Yeshiva in his youth, and later served a Dayan in Rabbi Vidal HaTzarfati’s Bet Din. To facilitate the printing of his book, Rabbi Ahron stayed in Venice for three years. The Venetian Torah greats, as well as those of the neighboring towns, benefitted greatly during these years from Rabbi Ahron’s wealth of Torah wisdom. In his later years, Rabbi Ahron emigrated to the Holy Land, settling in Jerusalem. Torah luminaries from Italy, Egypt and the Land of Israel all mourned his passing bitterly; among them Rabbi Leon de Modena, Rabbi Yosef di Trani (the MaHarimt), and Rabbi Azaria Piccio, author of ‘Gidul Teruma’ and ‘Bina LeIttim’.

Venice 1609. Giovanni di Gara.
