דורה אירופוס הייתה עיר הלניסטית ורומאית מוקפת חומה שנבנתה על מדרון בגובה של 90 מטר מעל גדת נהר הפרת. היא נמצאת ליד הכפר א-צלאחייה בסוריה של ימינו. העיר נוסדה על ידי הסלאוקים בסוף המאה ה-4 לפנה"ס על צומת של נתיב הסחר מערב-מזרח ונתיב הסחר על נהר הפרת. מאוחר יותר הפכה העיר למוצב קדמי של האימפריה הפרתית.
השרידים הארכיאולוגיים נתגלו בחפירוצ בסוריה בשנת 1928, בניית בית הכנסת הושלמה כנראה בשנים 244-245
