Sweet's The British Flower Garden - 3 Volumes with 300 Botanical Engravings
This three volume work with 300 beautiful, originally hand-colored botanical engravings is Robert Sweet’s work The British Flower Garden. The work was published in London by W. Simpkin between 1823 and 1829. Many of the illustrations for this work were by Edward Dalton Smith.

The volumes are bound in half original calf over marbled boards. This is the first series only complete with text and 300 botanical engravings, six of which are fold out plates.

Robert Sweet (1783-1835) was an English botanist, horticulturist, and ornithologist. He received early training as a gardener, and utilized this skill to become a foremost name in the horticultural world. He worked at several English plant nurseries and produced several botanical books. He gained even greater fame, however, when he was charged with receiving a box of plants stolen from the royal gardens at Kew. He was acquitted after a well-publicized trial.
