המחבר הרב יהודה ליבוש שיפמן (תר"ל - תש"י) נולד בטבריה לאביו הרב דוד שיפמן מרבני טבריה, למד בישיבות בטבריה. התחתן בשנת תרנ"ב, ודרשת החתונה שלו נדפסה בקונטרס קטן בשם "דרוש וקבל שכר", ועבר לחיפה.
