Shiva Mashkin. Seven articles and sermons, including a geometric explanation on Mishnayot tractate Kilayim, by Rabbi Shmuel Chaim [Neugas]. Frankfurt A.M., [1773-1774]. Only edition. [3], 24, [2] [2 illustration leaves]. 20.5 cm. Owner signatures on the title page.
The 2 illustration leaves were printed later and were inserted in their place between leaves 21-22. Includes the leaf of the approbations of the Furth rabbis that was added after the book was printed. The book includes information regarding Jewish-gentile relations. The Furth community trustees therefore banned the book, and forced the author to retract it. However, the book includes a letter in Latin and Arabic by Professor David Friedrik of Berlin who supports the author. In the colophon, which is printed after the text of the book, the author alludes to the polemic and writes that the book would have been completely lost if not for a Christian sage who recommended it.
Old, slightly blemished binding. A few stains. Fine-very fine condition. Rare.
