Glosses on Shu"t "Shaarei Tzedek" by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Shapira, av"d Dragomireşti and Rabbi Menachem Mendel Margoliot, av"d Horints
Shu"t "Shaarei Tzedek" on the four sections of the Shulchan Aruch by Admor Menachem Mendel Paneth. Prestigious signatures and glosses. Four sections. Munkacs, [1883-1885].
Three title pages bear the signature of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Shapira av"d Dragomiresti, author of "Moaznei Tzedek" and "Hin Tzedek", grandson of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Weinberger av"d Kisvarda. He was born in 1863 and studied by his grandfather and the "Yitav Lev". He passed away in 1940. Signed marginal glosses in his hand.
Additional marginal glosses in the hand of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Margoliot av"d Horints, the son-in-law of the brother-in-law of the aforementioned gloss writer (refer to his "Moaznei Tzedek" leaf 67b and more) – some are signed (מנחם or מנחם מרגליות).
Rabbi Menachem Mendel Margoliot was born in 1875 and was a disciple of the "Pri HaSadeh", "Keren L'Dovid" and the "Kedushat Yom Tov" in Sighet. In 1917, he acquiesced to the appeal of Rabbi Hager and served as preacher and rav"d in Otiniya. After the First World War, he returned to Maramureș and served as av"d Horints. He died in the Holocaust and his many manuscripts were lost. These Torah novellae are the vestiges that escaped destruction. (Refer to a lengthy write-up about this personality in Roshei Golut, Ariel, section one, p. 392-403).
Not bound. Missing the conclusion. Minimal worming holes. The sections are sewn together, but a number of leaves are loose. Thin paper. Moderate condition.
