Letter from Rabbi Eliyahu Eliezer Dessler, on the stationery of the "Queen Elizabeth" boat. In his short letter, he gives over warm wishes to his "dear friends" from the boat, signed א"א דסלר.

Rabbi Eliyhu Eliezer Dessler [1892-1953] was a prominent advocate of mussar and philosopher during the modern times. He was a great-grandson of Rabbi Yisrael of Salant. He studied in Kelm and married the daughter of his rebbe, Rabbi Nachum Zev Ziv Broida. He moved to England at the end of the 1920s and served as community rabbi. In 1940, he joined the administration of Gateshead's rabbinical kollel and taught there. In 1947, he was appointed Mashgiach of Ponevezh yeshiva, a post he maintained until his death. His primary work, "Michtav Me'Eliyahu", was adapted from his speeches and writings by his disciples Rabbi Aryeh Carmel and Rabbi Chaim Friedlander.
