Heter Meah Rabbanim. [1793]
Printed letter from the Rabbis of Beuthen (Germany) regarding a Heter Meah Rabbanim [authorization allowing a husband to marry a second wife signed by one hundred rabbis]. [1793].
[1 leaf. 22x28 cm.
Letter signed by three rabbis asking rabbis in various countries to join the initiative to enable a man with a senile wife marry another woman. The rabbis noted that the couple had already been civilly divorced, and the man would give his wife a get through an emissary and the ketuba terms would be tripled.
Signed by Rabbi Mordechai Kopstein of Beuthen, Rabbi Yaakov b"r Aharon Kohen of Katowice and Rabbi Binyamin Zev Mintz of Gliwice (grandson of the Shemen Rokeich, Otzar HaRabbanim 3844). Beuthen is located in Silesia, Southern Poland, near Katowice, and is in the Upper Silesian Metropolis. About 4000 Jews lived in the city before the Holocaust. Very rare letter.
Small piece of reinforcement tape on the back. Very fine condition.
