Beautiful Letter from the Av Beit Din of Livorno, Kabbalist Rabbi Ya'akov Nunes Vais

Very beautiful letter, loaded with blessings entirely handwritten and signed by the gaon Rabbi Ya'akov Nunes Vais, av beit din of Livorno and one of the Chid"a's closest associates - he even studied the hidden Torah together with him. Livorno, 1790.

The letter was sent on the eve of Passover, ma'alei yoma d'Pascha, to Rabbi Shmuel HaKohen, also a gadol of Livorno, who Rabbi Ya'akov Nunes Vais refers to in his letter commenting , "everything he decides is the halachah." Rabbi Ya'akov Nunes, aside from his greatness in Torah and Kabbalah, was known as a poet. He writes his letter in lofty poetic language, as was traditional among period Italian gedolim. He signs his letter: "Tola'at Yino"n."

Alongside this letter's historic value is its tremendous segulah value. Rabbi Ya'akov Nunes Vais was one of the gedolei hador and most prominent Kabbalists in the dor hadeah in which the Chid"a and the Rasha"sh also lived. He heaps on exceptional blessings in this letter for a complete recovery, covering almost the entire letter: " I pray that [your] candle enlighten; may your allowance always be granted from on High [paraphrasing the final verse in Yirmiyahu, "His allowance was a regular allowance from the King of Babylon"] ... And may Hashem remove all illness from you ... May [you] arise and become a cornerstone. May these blessings fertilize your soul ... Pleading for [your] success, Ana Hashem Hatzlichah Na, amen, may it be His will. May Hashem protect you going and coming from now and forever, amen, may it be His will.
