Lengthy Letter from the Admo"r Rabbi Yehudah Leib Twersky of Hornosteipel
Lengthy and beautiful letter about tzeddakah concerns handwritten by the Admo"r Rabbi BenTziyon Leib Twersky of Hornosteipel. Chicago, USA [c. 1940s].
The letter was sent to Rabbi Yosef Eliyahu Henkin, one of the prominent poskim in the United States and head of the Ezrat Torah organization. It discusses a recommendation for the emissaries of institutions run by important Jerusalem personalities, requesting credentials issued by the Ezrat Torah society. These credentials were given to all emissaries to enable them to fundraise in the United States.
Nowadays, when the number of fraudsters has increased in many places, there are committees who check the credibility of the meshulachim and give them a letter affirming their trustworthiness. Without this letter, they are unable to collect funds. This letter here, written almost 100 years ago, demonstrates that this is not a new phenomenon. The problem already existed and emissaries needed a certificate of integrity from the Ezrat Torah Association to collect funds from benefactors in the United States.
