The esteemed Rabbi Ovadia Yosef [1920-2013], former Chief Rabbi of Israel (Rishon LeZion), spiritual leader and president of the Council of Torah Sages of the Shas party, was the most prominent Sephardic rabbi of his generation, often referred to as "Posek HaDor" (the leading halachic authority of the generation). His era marked the golden age of Sephardic Jewry in Israel.
