Netivot HaShalom on Choshen Mishpat, by Rabbi Moshe Nehemiah Kahanov. Jerusalem, 1875. First Edition. Author’s Dedication.
A printed dedication letter from the author appears before the title page, addressed to Rabbi David Ben Shimon (the Dvash).
About Rabbi David Ben Shimon (Dvash):
Rabbi David Ben Shimon was a distinguished rabbi in Rabat, Morocco, where he taught many disciples. In 1854, he immigrated to Eretz Yisrael, where he later founded the Va'ad HaEdah HaMaaravit (Committee of the Western Sephardic Community) and established the Machane Yisrael neighborhood in Jerusalem. He is known for his notable works, including Sha’arei Tzedek, Sha’ar HaMatarah, and Sha’ar HaMifkad. His descendants include the renowned Ben Shimon family.
About the Author:
Rabbi Moshe Nehemiah Kahanov (1817–1887) was born in Belarus. After his marriage, he moved to Vilna, where he extensively studied the works of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, whom he refers to as "my teacher and master, " despite never having met him personally. He served as the Rabbi of Petrovitz and later of Chaslavitch, where he founded a yeshiva.
In 1864, he immigrated to Eretz Yisrael, settling in Jerusalem. In 1866, the great scholars of Jerusalem, led by Rabbi Shmuel Salant, requested him to become the Rosh Yeshiva of Etz Chaim, a position he held for nearly 25 years, teaching hundreds of Jerusalem’s greatest Torah scholars.
