Two Rare Editions of Shechitot U'Bedikot: Amsterdam, 1745 / Frankfurt an der Oder, 1790 – With the Pri Megadim’s Rare Approbation!
A pair of rare books bound together.
1. Shechitot U'Bedikot by Mahari Weil, with the Commentary Ohel Yisrael. Frankfurt an der Oder, 1790.
On the back of the title page, there is a rare approbation from the renowned Gaon, Rabbi Yosef Teomim, author of Pri Megadim and Av Beit Din of the city.
The final section of the book contains responsa on the laws of Shechitah and Bedikah.
34, [1] leaves.
2. Shechitot U'Bedikot by Mahari Weil, with glosses by Rabbi Tzvi bar Yitzchak of Krakow. Amsterdam, 1745.
Includes a separate title page for the section on Bedikot.
24, 26-28, [1] leaves. Lacking leaf 25.
Signature on the title page of Shechitot: "Leib Baruch HaLevi of Plock."
Historical Significance:
Books on Shechitah and Bedikah were extensively used by shochtim and mohalim in every town and village, and were typically printed in small formats.
Due to their heavy usage, early editions are exceptionally rare!
